The protest in CUHK graduation ceremony

December 10th, 2007 · No Comments

There was a protest against Chinese University’s decision to honor former Chief Executive Tung Chi-wah. Sadly I wasn’t there, partly because I’m too busy recently. I think the meaning of this protest is not only anti-Tung but anti-School’s mistakes in recently year.

Many media describe students in this protest are selfish, disrupted the annual graduation ceremony. I don’t really understand what is the meaning of “selfish” in Hong Kong nowadays! You call 20 students spent a morning protesting, work on something not related with their personal interest “selfish”? Then what about those who participated in this ceremony, but just don’t care what the hell is going on in CUHK, and can’t wait to join a transnational corporate to develop their own career?

Another word I don’t understand is “freedom of speech”, well….. protest = do not respect freedom of speech. We are more and more COMMUNIST-like there in Hong Kong…

Anyway, there is a nice video about the graduation protest.
